MLS: Goals by Month

Remember, there's only been a lot of March & October games in recent years, where there's been fewer goals overall than the inflated early years.

Only counting the six months from April to September, here's the number of times each month has been the high and low point in the scoring average:

Low High
April 7 1
May 2 3
June 2 4.5
July 3 1.5
August 1 3
September
2

Last year was the first time that April, usually the lowest scoring month, finished first. This year, it was clearly higher than May or June, though July is slightly ahead with one weekend left.

Hey scaryice, here's an idea of some cool analysis that you could do with your data for your:

Everyone always says that strikers are streaky. When a striker is in a slump, you hear commentators say, "If he can just put one in the rest will come in bunches." Is that really true, or is it just our perception? There is a study on the "hot hand" in basketball by Gilovich, Vallone, and Tversky that you could google to get ideas. They find that the hot hand effect isn't true--a player who just made a shot is no more likely to make his next one.
